Who are we?

We are the disciples of Jesus Christ and are members of His Body, of His flesh and of His bones Ephesians 5:30

We are also the sons of God. " For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ."  Acts 11:26  27   We are called Christians because Christ’s disciples were called Christians -- And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch” Acts 11:26.

We are called the church of Christ because it is a scriptural name.  The name is found in the New Testament  “The churches of Christ Salute you” Romans 16:16.  Jesus calls it “my church” when he tells Peter “Upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18.
“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body. Ephesians 5:23

What do we believe?

First we believe that the Holy Scriptures should be our sole source of instructions from God because the Bible is the inspired word of God and “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness 2 Timothy 3:16  We have been given this book of instruction to equip us with all things that pertain to life and godliness.  We do not believe in man made creeds but only in the Holy Scriptures.

We believe that our salvation only comes through Jesus Christ and we can only be saved by belief on his name and his saving grace.  "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so ye believed. 1 Corinthians 15:1-11   The Gospel forms the foundation of our salvation and our hope for eternal life with Christ in Heaven.   Sin is a problem with man but Christ’s sinless offering of Himself on the cross made Him the propitiation for our sins.  Our salvation requires faith in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection and true faith in Him bring about a response from us.  We need to repent of our sins, confess that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God and be baptized into his name.  We are then added to the church, His Church.

Furthermore we believe that baptism in the form of immersion is a part of the obedience of one who has accepted Christ as his Savior.  "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.  Romans 6: 3-6

Also in Colossians 2:12 Paul says that “we are buried with him in baptism”

How the church is governed!

Jesus Christ is the Chief Cornerstone in the solid foundation of His Church and He is our only Head as He sits at the Right Hand of the Throne of God. Furthermore  And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ Ephesians 4:11,12    Since the departure of Christ and his apostles we now have Evangelists and Elders to guide the Church in her work. The work of the Evangelist is described in the New Testament, and so is the work of the Elders. We read about Elders, the Presbytery, Pastors, Shepherds, Bishops, and Overseers in the Church, and we find that these phrases all refer to the same office of the church. Evangelists preach the gospel and work with congregations in order to develop them to maturity where they can have their own government in the form of Elders. Elders are appointed by Evangelists, and Evangelists are appointed by Elders.  This keeps someone from gaining too much power in the Church. Deacons are also described in the New Testament, Acts chapter 6 and their duties are to assist in the physical matters of the church.
